FOR THE PICS GO TO "PLASTIC PICS AND SEE "GATO UPDATE"
Ok I have some work done. I know i might be hop skipping around but i'm working on other areas as the prvious areas dry.
I hollowed out the periscope shears and added screens to the openings. also took out the cast in plates for the look outs for addition of the photo etch plates.
I also discovered some copper wire that is the right diameter for the weld seams. i used it on the stern rudder assembly for the seam that was made when it was glued together. it was hard to sand smooth so i used the wire to make a weld seam there. i'll be using the wire to make a weld seam where the stern and bow get glued in place.
I also started work on the forward torp shutters. i am going to display one open. below is a series of pics of what i have done so far. i am using the original shutter that i cut out. i did a little sanding to make it more accurate. i made the upper and lower plates from sheet styrene. i bought some tubing that is to scale for a 21" dia torpedoe. i am making the bulkhead that the tube comes thru out of 3 pieces of .060 sheet glued together to give me thickness. below are some pics of what i have done.
I did find a picture that shows the torpedoe tube shutters that revel might have used to do thier mold. I know alot of discussion has revolced around this. That these are not accurate. If you go to the acurate model parts web site the have an upgrade that they calim is correct. From what i have found in my reasearch is that there were alot of different configurations for the forward shutters. I am going to use the model as is with some minor adjustment to the lower shutter ....stay tuned for more updates as i get them done.
i belive this is the pic revell usewd. It matches the model as far as I can see...
To post an image of your models, you will first need to find somewhere to host your photos on the Internet. Your ISP will often give you a limited amount of free web storage, and other online photo storage is also available.
To post a link or an image, simply type in the URL (web address) of the destination page or image. The URL will appear as a link (for an HTML link) or an image (if you link direct to a .jpg file) when posted. You can use the Preview facility to see how your message looks before posting to Plastic Pix.
Please try to keep image sizes to 800 pixels wide or less, as larger sizes will be too big to fit on many computer screens. Also, file sizes should be kept to around 100kb or less, otherwise download may be very slow.
