| It basically means that any Gato sub model is instantly not a WW2 model, despite what the packaging says. It isn't aminor issue, either, like a round 20mm Oerlikon pedestal versus the open tripod one. No, the buoys go the actual shape of the deck and casing. This is akin to boxing up a Spitfire Mk. 24 as a Battle of Britain bird. It may be a Spit, but its from the wrong time, and shaped improperly, as a result.
When I spoke to the Revell rep, I couched my question interms of, "Is Revell planning on doing any other versions of the basic molds?" He replied in the affirmative, economics being the guiding factor. Then, I mentioned that there was an error - a big one - and would he be kind enough to pass the information on so that future versions were even better than the kit is, now. I was very complimentary about the kit, overall. Now, the average person won't know the difference. However, peple willing to spend money and do their reseach will, and this could affect their decision to buy future Revell Gatos. I know of several people who have gone to the smaller Trumpeter 1/144th Gato models since they got the deck mostly correct; a few issues here and there, but still more accurate than the bigger Revell Gato in many areas, and therefore requiring much less time, money and effort to fix and build into a proper Gato.
