I'm building Dragon's 1/700 Ticonderoga class Flight II boat as USS Cowpens. My question is what part of the fore and aft masts get painted black? Searching the internet shows a lot of pictures where these masts get painted black aove the smoke stacks (as was the typical pattern for modernish ships). However, most of these pictures are of early Tico class cruisers and pictures of USS Cowpens specifically show this is not accurate, but I am unable to find a clear enough picture to see exactly where the line between black and gray is. It appears to me that on the Cowpens, only the top rim of the smoke stacks are black, there is no black on the foremast and the aft mast is black only above the top yard arm. Does anyone have more clear information on this? I'd appreciate any input. Thanks.
