Response to Trumpeter 1/144 Gato issues?

These two early Electric Boat Gatos carried their anchors on both sides of the hull. They later lost the portside anchor during wartime refits. Portsmouth/Mare Island boats and Electric Boat/Manitowac Gatos differed in a number of ways. One was the location of the (eventually) single anchor. Not all Gatos had the full length wooden deck, so again, the kit is best for those early high fairwater units.

As others have said, there are some issues with the kit. However, it is a decent build - not superb, but decent - out of the box. As long as you know it best represents Gato and Greenling as built and commissioned, early 1942, its fine. Nautilus Models has some conversions if you want to change out a few things. It can certainly use some aftermarket goodies to spruce it up.
