Response to Ron Smith re: WWI naval camouflage

Hi Ed,

Some of the merchant vessels used for transport duties may have carried a very rich, dark yellow that looked orangey but no USS destroyers that I have found. DD's were usually in the blues, blue/greys, neutrals. Some US cruisers and BB's had pinks or grey/pinks according to design sheets but no DD's so far.

It is possible that a very light grey, blue or blue/grey could have reflected an orangey color around dawn or dusk but that would be the light, not the paint.
