On October 16-17, the New Jersey Chapter of the International Plastic Modelers' Society (IPMS) will be hosting a regional convention for hobbyists at the Holiday Inn in Runnemede NJ 109 9th Ave 08078, just across the river from Philadelphia.

The event will draw talented model builders from far and wide along the east coast, ranging from as far north as New England, down south from Virginia and west from the hinterlands of Pennsylvania and Ohio. Some of these modelers have worked for Hollywood on Star Wars and Star Trek movies, PBS television and had their work appear in museums and other institutions. Over the past years NJIPMS has provided models for the Battleship New Jersey Historical Museum in Camden, the Liberty Scienece Museum in Liberty State Park in Jersey City, the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum in Manhattan and the Polish Military Heritage Museum in New York, just to name a few. Our society also sends models and hobby supplies to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan to help them cope with the pressures of military service far from home.
At our last hobby event we had over 600 of the finest museum-quality scale models in compettition and we expect to top that in October.
Our event includes a model competition, hobby flea market, raffles, a trip to the Battleship New Jersey,seminars for model building techniques and, for kids - a "Make and Take" model building class where we teach kids how to build models - we provide the models, hobby supplies and guidance for free and the kids get to take the models home. There's nothing like watching the intensity of concentration on a kid's face while he builds a model. It teaches them problem-solving skliis, patience and provides a kind of tactile fulfillment that is just not possible with sitting in front of a computer screen playing video games.
$30 for Contest Entrants; General Admission is only $6.00 for adults Over 18 and a mere $3.00 for younger folks under 18 - what a bargain for a family outing in these trying economic times! Perfect for a family "Stay-cation" event!!
