Response to Revell does it in 1/96 Scale

1. Check out the ships forum at Fine Scale Modeler. That seems to be the forum of choice for builders of plastic sailing ship kits. The merits of the various USS Constitution kits have been discussed there.

2. If you decide you want a Revell 1/96 kit, the Revell Germany and the Revell USA kits are the same mold. In the USA, if you buy the R-G version, you're basically paying extra to cover the shipping to and from Europe.

3. Don't pay retail for the Revell 1/96 kit. The kit has been on the market for decades. With a little shopping around, you can get them used for a great discount. I got my copy on eBay for $20-- box was a bit beat up, but the kit was unstarted and complete.

4. The biggest risk in buying a used kit is the condition of the vac formed sails. Vac formed sails are crap, IMO, so they're one of the first things I'd toss in any case. But "damaged" sails will drive the price down!

HTH....
