Each turret can have almost level blast bags or ones raised about 25 degrees. I decided to do A turret in the "at rest" or loading pose. Guns almost level, shutters on the 15 meter rangefinders closed. B turret will have the guns raised and the shutters open. I'll have to detail paint the optics inside the rangefinders but hopefully not a big deal. Yes they even have the optics molded into them! The outer turrets have 12 pieces of photo etch each. Two platforms on the front, and they are handed. Four ladders, two access covers on the rangefinder, the open grating under the bustle, and the optics covers that are optional. I'm guessing the covers were closed except during the actual time to find the target? The upper vent (?), the gunner's sights, the aft vent, and both rangefinders (three parts each) are all glued to the turret The aft vent is the size of a pin head. Yeah, there are some TINY parts in this kit but it's still light years easier to build than the Dragon Scharnhorst.
Yes I see the hair on the starboard rangefinder. And the less than perfect paint job. I still need another light coat of Kure Gray but that's a no brainer. It takes 5 seconds to pull the barrels.
A turret is done except for detail painting the optics. I figure silver or gold, then clear blue, then clear smoke. That should give the proper depth to them.
B turret needs the blast bags and guns installed. C turret is going to have the interior detailed a bit and the 20 AP shells placed in it. I'm leaving the upper turret unglued so it can be taken off to show the inside.
Oh, and I have to remove the paint on the inside of the turret mounting ring and one area of the barbet. The fit is so tight that those areas CAN'T be painted!! Yes the molding is that accurate. And, like I said, the kit doesn't allow for any errors. You get it right or things won't fit. Hopefully that won't cause a problem? It does require more than the normal care cleaning, gluing, and positioning things.
And the kit is still FUN to build!!!
