I'm a little confused by pictures-- and I don't know anything about these things.

You refer to them as "barges", so I assume they are un-powered...? Since there is no push boat, I assume they were towed- should there be a towline to an "out of frame" tug?

But there there is that curved down thing at the stern, and an awful lot of whitewater-- that perhaps implies a power plant of some sort (but there's no conning station I can see..)

As you can tell, I'm confused!
