Ex Cannon-class DE USS Atherton (DE-169)....

I thought some of you might find this interesting.
I found this photo on the Navy web site. Did a little
Wikipedia research and found some history of this ship. Nice to see a 1943 commissioned ship still doing her job.

to see her still going. It's too bad they scrapped the England some years ago. Atherton, for those not in the know, was responsible for one of the last U-Boat sinkings in W.W.II, along with the Coast Guard manned patrol Frigate U.S.S. Moberly. They got their U-Boat in Long Island Sound IIRC. I remember someone complaining that the concussion from their depth charges broke the windows in the Long Island post office.
