What would have been the correct colors for the bulkheads and floor of the hanger deck, 1944-45? Thanks

Hi Dave,

The deck was painted #20 Standard Deck Gray, and the bulkheads and overheads were 5-U White.

....and yes, WEM PE 3536 will be extensively put to use, in case you're wondering! Not as the Essex, but the Ticonderoga CV14. And thanks also for producing such wonderful products.

Also, the bulkheads around the elevators were dark. I haven't found the exact colors, although documents for bomb elevators calls for the inside shafts to be painted black to absorb light from below. I would say either black, 20-B Deck Blue, or 5-N Navy Blue.

Re. Bulkheads color

Can't remember where the pictures were published, but I believe that the bulkheads were painted a dark semi gloss or gloss gray from the deck up to about 6'0". This was done to prevent greasy handprints from showing up on the white paint.

Others may know more.
