I have gathered all of the aftermarket stuff I need to get this project done. Paints have been acquired, except for the anti-fouling red on the bottom of the ship.

Any good ideas on what specific color to use in a Model Master or Humbrol enamel to represent the red in Measure 22?

All I could find on www.shipcamoflage.com was color information regarding:

Vertical Surfaces
Horizontal Surfaces
Wood Decks
Canvas Covers
And notes about glass and shiny stuff

In Colourcoats...

...it is US 14, Norfolk 65-A Antifouling Red, the only accurate USN WW2 antifouling red in the model market.

IF you can FIND Colourcoat paint.

June 4 2009, 10:06 PM

The four online resellers I have talked to are almost all out of stock of your Colourcoat product. And said they haven't been able to get it.

Out of the three colors I ordered recently direct from WEM, only one shipped.

They MUST be good, accurate paints if they are this much trouble to locate!

I bought a rattle can of Rustoleum Colonial Red tonight . . . I'll be damned if it's not dead-on for a ship's bottom! T'will work for this model.

BTW, John, got any of those 40mm Bofors barrerls in 1/144?

Colourcoats, et al

Hi Jon,

We just restocked on all those colors, but they're going out fast! It was a cascading series of problems that led to the shortage: the paint manufacturer shut down for a full month over the Christmas holidays, and then took another 2 weeks to get back into full production. Our paint man went down with pneumonia. And finally, the long run of cold weather we had meant that he couldn't spray lids and tin the paint because of thermal cutouts on his machine. So, we're still playing catch-up.

Bofors barrels are on order and should be with us very soon.

Cheers,
John Snyder
