a Collossus=class carrier of the Royal Navy (though she sent much of her service life, before being transferred to the Brazilian Navy, serving with the Royal Australian Navy.

Transferred to the Brazilian Navy in 1956, she was refitted with a steam catapult, angled flight deck, redesigned island and improved radar. She was decommissioned in 2001, and sold for scrap, being replaced by the Foch in 2004.

hell of a job getting it past the Health & SAfety guys if you were going to let fare-paying passengers aboard! The French Navy had no fun at all trying to find somewhere that would scrap her sister-ship, the Clemenceau, for that very reason. Probably explains how the Brazilians were able to buy her for less than $US30m.

Cheers,

Chris.
