Hello
I am looking for an ironside kit in plastic. Not sure of scale because this will be my first sailing ship build. I would like one that is 2-3 ft long. If anyone has a kit they would like to sell or trade? I would be interested.

Thank You

If you are seeking the USS Constitution Nicknamed Old Ironsides. Squadron and others stock it and it is also on E-Bay quite a bit.
Cheers
Jeff

Some recommendations....

1. Check out the ships forum at Fine Scale Modeler. That seems to be the forum of choice for builders of plastic sailing ship kits. The merits of the various USS Constitution kits have been discussed there.

2. If you decide you want a Revell 1/96 kit, the Revell Germany and the Revell USA kits are the same mold. In the USA, if you buy the R-G version, you're basically paying extra to cover the shipping to and from Europe.

3. Don't pay retail for the Revell 1/96 kit. The kit has been on the market for decades. With a little shopping around, you can get them used for a great discount. I got my copy on eBay for $20-- box was a bit beat up, but the kit was unstarted and complete.

4. The biggest risk in buying a used kit is the condition of the vac formed sails. Vac formed sails are crap, IMO, so they're one of the first things I'd toss in any case. But "damaged" sails will drive the price down!

HTH....

I posted a picture of the model you may be looking for after your post. It is a monogram kit and hard to find. It's about 30 inches long. Revell has a larger kit, over 36" long and is still available.

Found one Revell museum 1/96

October 25 2009, 12:47 AM

I just purchased a 1/96 scale revell museum classics uss constitution. It cost me 22.00 but I bought it anyway. It is missing a brass bell but maybe I can scratch build one and paint it the proper color. I was on the constitution at the boston naval yard. At the time it was undergoing some restoration work but I did take alot of pictures and would be glad to share them if anyone would like to see them.
