I posted this article on another site about a month ago.

I'm surprised I did not hear back from the USS San Francisco CA-38 Foundation. I hoped for some feedback on this presentation.

The memorial is very moving. Read about it on this webpage and you will learn why.

Another Piece you might want to read

I posted the damage report for San Francisco online... very sobering to read through and look at the damage plates:

Electrical problems essentially shorted out everything above the main deck!

Well that could be a nice challenge to a determined ship modeller. Trying to replicate all the (external)damage would give me fits but it would look very interesting when done.

Many, many...

October 26 2009, 12:31 AM

years ago a former Navy Corps man told me of helping to clean up the San Francisco after the battle. He said that the only thing they found of Admiral Callahan was an arm. They identified it as his by his Annapolis class ring. When a Heavy Cruiser and a BB go at it at ranges like those, some estimates as close as 1700 yards, Human Beings are just bits and pieces flying in all directions.

I recently picked up Morrison's volume on the Guadalcanal campaign and though I'm only through Savo Island, it is a grim reminder of what a lot of American's suffered through to win that war.
