Got this today at the LHS. I have been dodging getting the Riich kit of the same, simply cuz 20 bucks seems a tad steep.
The HB kit will allow you to do ANY of the LA class boats. All three variants are doable from one kit. The 688 class, the 688 vls class, and the 688i. They give you two upper hulls, one with the vls hatches, and one without. They give you two different sails, one with dive planes, one without. The level of detail on the model is gorgeous. The lower hull even has the limber holes. The vls hatches are molded shut, so, no fiddling with itty bitty doors that don't fit. The sail comes in two parts, top cap, and sail, so, no sanding needed to fix up bad fitting parts. the cap has two options- on with scopes and antennae extended, and on with them retracted. The kit comes with a small brass fret, included are two MASSIVE and I do mean MASSIVE screws (they are optional, as a plastic screw is also provided, but it too is MASSIVE). I don't know what to think here, but, there are aftermarket screws available.
I did not look too closely at the decals, but, they DO include the Chicago Bull that was chalked on back in ninety something.
At 13.99, it's a deal! GET IT!!! Red Steve, I'm looking at YOU!
