Looking for a fic (tough one)

Hey all,
Here's a challenge for you. I'm looking for a fiction but I don't remember the title, author, and even the plot escapes me. I do know that it is about Fran and Max and how they get together. Of course Max is apprehensive and 'thinks' too much about it. This births a great line in which Max is thinking about Fran and she comes up to him and asks "What's with the knitting?" As Max looks more confused, she pokes him in between his eyebrows and wonders what has gotten him to think so hard. I would really love to read it because it was a great story, but unfortunately all I can remember is line. Any help/suggestions anyone?
