Response to The Credit Crunch for Materialism

It seems clear to me that materialism is a failure. There is MORE to the Cosmos than atoms, and the whole fabric, as it has been unraveled by the great minds, still maintains a mystery. Here we are with particle accelerators and electron microscopes, and ultimately, it's all so elusive.

The smallest particles we have are not observed, they are inferred, and even more, they are just mathematical ideas.

I think that modern physics has definitely decided in favor of Plato. In fact the smallest units of matter are not physical objects in the ordinary sense; they are forms, ideas which can be expressed unambiguously only in mathematical language.
