Our eyes only HAVE three color receptors -red, blue and green. Those are the only colors we can ever, actually see. All other colors that we think we see are composited by our brain's processor to differentiate mixes of those 3 colors. So it only makes sense that if we see blue and red (magenta-ish) together in a mix, we translate the combination as being more "bluish" than if we see green and red together (which translates into a warmer color of yellow).
So it's more "fact" than "illusion" that one appears bluer than the other.
