You are correct in terms of some Muslims, especially those born in Muslim countries. The same might be true of some Christians.
I think some of it is cultural more than religious. First and second generation Muslims are going to become a bit more liberal over time. In general. But there is an attraction that some have to hard line fundamentalism. The dumb ones tend towards that -- being told what to do, and being able to justify their hatred of women, and religious and racial bigotries.
Same can be said for some of other religions and cultures. Can't speak for Judaism.
