.... almost just as much as genuine emotion.
Unfortunately, people seem to think logic refers to a lot more than it does. It doesn't.
Logic is not a set of laws that governs the universe - that's physics.
Logic is not a method for 'studying the world' - that's science.
Logic is not a set of rules to examine human behavior - that's psychology.
Logic is not a way of evaluating 'the truth' - that's philosophy.
Logic is not a mode for assessing axioms - that's a matter of pure, self-evident, reason.
Logic is not transcendent or immaterial - that's incoherency
as terms of such a nature do not have an ontological status
i.e., no positive way of identifying them, since they cannot
Logic simply produces a true conclusion when we poor sound premises and valid inference into an argument. That's all there is to it really!
a disagreement or method of reasoning
wherein a set of statements mean to
establish a definite proposition whilst logic
serves as the means to evaluate the quality
of ratiocination applied as to determine whether
the conclusion reached or offered is valid, or not
IOW, reasoning is the method and logic the tool to scrutinize the method ... and therein lies the beauty of reasoning & logic; it is a self-correcting system ... dealing with demonstrabilities as a set of interconnected axioms created by sentient beings meant to tell us, incontrovertibly, when an argument 'works' by showing, unassailably, when the argument; a piece of reasoning, indisputably supports what is meant to be a definite proposition, i.e., the conclusion offered representing what is deemed fact(ual) ... so that what matters in the end is whether the reasoning is sound; justifying the premises, and whether the argument form is valid; proper use of inference, in that, when an argument is sound and valid, its conclusion is true no matter how disturbing, how counter-intuitive, how emotionally unsatisfying the intrinsic nature and value of the conclusion (is deemed).
rejected and denied by many, accepted and embraced by few : falsifiability
- it is not what we (think we) know that matters, it is what we can show true that does
as the maxim demands; truth is demonstrably fact and fact is demonstrably true
everything else ... mere BS -
