I had felt "uncomfortable" with all the praise and worship for years already -even as a Christian. Not that I didn't revere God but I just "knew" that all the repetitive ritual could NEVER please anyone but an ego-maniac.
When I let go of my faith in Christianity, it became crystal clear to me that my "hunch" had been correct all along. No self-confident person likes to be worshiped. Praise is great as long as it's based in recognition of something deserved. Praise for the sake of getting attention is a real turn off.
What anyone in a position of power and influence appreciates is RESPECT. That's about all. From respect, the other attributes will naturally flow.
