The "Bible says" -(or John 4:24, more specifically)- God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

The Greek word for 'spirit' here is "pneumana" -(from which we get our English word "pneumatic", meaning, the use of air)- rather than the other English Bible word "spirit" translated from "phantasma" (which meant a physical apparition).

So what John 4:24 says is that "God" is something 'in the air'. I would associate that with what we often describe as "there's something in the air" .............. "the air was charged with an expectancy" ................ like a 'something' that occurs at rallies or sports events or in religious meetings.

This "something" is a connection between living things. It's similar to an animal sitting in a house and suddenly perking up and going to the door when his owner is still miles away, getting into his car to come home. It's a kind of 6th sense phenomena.

Whether this sense is good or bad though, isn't or can't be specifically pinned down. It seems that it is sometimes used for evil purposes as well.
