Most of the practices commanded in the books of "Moses" were never observed all through the reigns of the kings of Israel until the time of Josiah. There was no circumcision and no Passover ............... Kings acted as priests in violation of the Mosaic law ...... practices weren't consistent with the proscriptions of Levitical law ......... Solomon's temple was rife with imagery .... they worshiped consistently in high places ...... they had golden calves in 2 sacred places for hundreds of years without any objections ..... Kings were polygamous ............ prophets were often called Seers (but ALWAYS called prophets in the books of Moses) and so on. You can see from the pattern that the 5 books of Moses were written very late in the Jews' history.
I was doing a search the other day on "Lord of Hosts." This is a much used phrase in Jeremiah and Isaiah. Although "Lord" is always translated from the Hebrew word Yeh-ho-vaw, the phrase "Lord of Hosts" is different than "Lord God." I discovered that "Lord of Hosts" was used quite extensively by the Israelites BEFORE the major upheaval done by Josiah and was also used by writers who stayed behind in the Babylonian captivity period. Those writers who went to Babylon and came back never used that phrase anymore; they used "Lord God." Jeremiah was one of the prophets who never went to Babylon.
