A NEW HOME!

I am so excited. I am moving either this month or next month into a house. We will be renting, but we know the owners and they are animal friendly people.

Right now I live in an apartment complex, when I first moved in I had a ferret, dog & a cat. I was given an ok on all three. I was told they only allow two pets - but that only applies to dogs & cats. Caged animals did not require dep or a limit. So two years later -- I found out from a neighbor that small pets are not allowed at all??!?!?! I called in as a "perspective renter" and asked about the pet rules. I was told they did not allow "rodents". I said Ferrets are not rodents, she said "well no burrowing animals". ??????? We originally moved to these apartments because there is no weight limit on dogs. I had a Border Collie who was, shocking to me, above most weight limits. We then also adopted a Black Lab/Boxer mix. When the Humane Society called my apartments Boxer was ok. They are not a restricted/banned breed in our community. For anyone who knows the breed, I am sure you are as confused about that as I am. When they banned Boxers we were close with the people in our office and one went in and changed our dog to just "Black Lab".

So I have been "hiding" my ferrets for a couple years now.

I can't wait to not have to HIDE anymore. Plus I can also get NEW pets.

The owners of the home have a German Shepard, an African Grey parrot and the most interesting a Red-Tailed Hawk! (The wife, my friend, is a falconer. It is an amazing hobby/sport/art!)

So they know the concerns of pet owners. The husband LOVES his German Shepard and hates that his insurance puts rules on breeds. He is allowed to have his dog, but only ONE Shepard. WHY?? Two means they will attack, but one won't??? Anyways -- I am rambling .. I am SO excited.

Good for you!! :)

Hello! I understand how you feel, with having to hide your fuzzies. We just moved from California... where they are ILLEGAL all together!! Talk about stress! If they catch you with one,.. or more, it's (last I was told) a $1,000.00 fine FOR EACH ferret, and then they will take them and usually, "destroy" (KILL) your ferret, and test it, "to see if it has rabies".
IDIOTS!

I'm so glad you will have a new, stress free home for you and your furry friends! Just make sure your owner doesn't have her hawlk out when your fuzzies are too!!
YIKES!!

Take care!

I do not want my babies to become hawk food. By the time my ferrets move in, her hawk will be at her new home!!!

Some falconers use ferrets. Their hawks are trained to NOT kill the ferrets. There have been accidents of course, but normally it works out well. Her hawk has never been around ferrets though, it is not common (or legal) in Washington to use ferrets in falconery. So her hawk can not come near my babes!

My children though LOVE her hawk!!!! She has a Harris Hawk, he is such a cuddly sweetie -- he is actually being sent to Tennessee to become an educator bird.. anyways my 22month old son has kissed him and offers him cookies.

: )

I know how you must feel. That is fabulous!

Just be careful. We own our own home and now have 2 dogs, 2 cats, 9 ferrets, and 2 large fish tanks. It can get out of hand quickly!

Noah's ark!

I completely understand losing control. I use to have a zoo myself. At one time I had two dogs, a cat, a rat and a hedgehog. I've also had iguana's --- ferrets -- etc.

This is the FIRST time in my life that everyone does NOT get along. My one dog wants to eat the ferrets. I think she would eat any small animal. I know she is ok with cats as long as they stand their ground.

I won't get too many animals based off Sadie! I figure the more I get the more interested she will be to eat everyone or someone. I think we have been really good at being cautious, and too many animals we might slip up. I can't handle having someone eat something else.

I had an accident with one of my iguana's. I was out of town and my Mother was watching my pets. She left the iguana's tank lid off a little and he got out. My old dog stepped on him and killed him. I don't think his goal was death -- that is what he did back in Florida to toads. They didn't die, they just went flat and he would sniff them and let them go -- squish them, sniff them, let them go .. etc until he got bored or until they found an escape.

He picked my hedgehog up in his mouth once too! Didn't hurt her, I think she probably hurt him though! He "brought" her to me. it was funny because at first I didn't realize what was in his mouth.

Sadie though wants to eat the ferrets! There is no question. So I can't get too many anything -- I don't want to slip up one day in a haste to do something. I have to make sure I don't have more animals then my schedule allows. Which is important anyways!

TOO FUNNY!!

October 10 2005, 9:21 PM

LOL!! Well,... ya. I would hate to come home to a fuzzie's tail sticking out of dog's mouth! lol
I let our dog loose in the house once, (who normally stays outside all day, just because she can't calm down. She runs around like a wild dog, and her nails scratch up our hard wood floors. So we crate her at night in the house.) and the fuzzies were out too. Bernard, "The protector" took one look at Macy, (who is a medium size dog) and went "SNAP!". I turned around to find Bernard hanging,.. yes HANGING from Macy's lip! Poor Macy just sat there with this confused look on her face, like,.. "Uh.. Mom? Uh,... could you get this THING off of me?" LOL! She stayed away from then on. lol
She's such a sweet dog.
One day, if I get really mad at my Husband,.. I will have my revenge...
I'll give the kids a lot of chocolate,....
and let ALL of the animals loose in the house, then I'll leave. LOL!!! (The kids RUNNING through the house, yelling and chasing eachother,.. while 5 ferrets are running and getting into EVERYTHING, and the dog being chased by Bernard... and the baby crying... LOL!!!
"MMUUUHHHAAAAAAAAAAA!!"
Take care!
