Food Question

I was reading a ferret-care brochure and I noticed it said not to ever feed ferrets dog food.

His actual real food is Marshall's Ferret diet, and he seems to be doing very well on it (much better coat etc. than when we got him 4 months ago from acquaintances who'd been feeding him cheap supermarket cat food).

But he does like to "steal" kibble from the dog's dish - sometimes when the (very tolerant) dog is eating, even.

Is eating the occasional bit of dogfood a problem?

Gwin is a sable male, roughly 4 years old.

I don't think it would be a problem, no. They're just saying as nutrition, it is bad. Generally, dog food is not nearly high enough in protein, and ferrets need a high protein food. In fact, the occasional dog food kibble is probably better than like the commercially available "yogies" which are really high in sugar. I'd only be careful they don't choke on the chunks of the bigger kibble.

Actually, I feed my dogs Innova Evo small bites dog food (mixed with Chicken soup for kittens), and they do well on it...but the Innova is like 42% protein? (I think).
