From the Naples Daily News: "That's the nature of the business," Everblades head coach Gerry Fleming said of Varhaug's departure. "(Lowell) liked what they heard of his play so far and wanted to take another look at him."

What I was told by one of the staff: "We had Varhaug reassigned to Flint. He can't skate, he can't shoot and he can't puck handle. We needed the roster spot so we asked Lowell to get him out of here."

Since he was Lowell property, that was the only way they could move him. The Blades had the first right of refusal on all Lowell send downs in any case.

Given that Varhaug had skated three regular game shifts (by my count), it would have been the fastest call up in history had it been true. I understand coach was being diplomatic about a "fan favorite", but anyone who knew anything about hockey would have seen through his statement immediately.
