Re: Signing Playersby (Login bladesgal)
We can't sign a lot of player right off because we are contractually obligated to take players from Carolina. Aside from two goaltenders, there is no way to really predict which skaters (and how many) we're going to get, but you can make some educated guesses.
Most players return home visit with their families over the summer. Other players, especially those under Hurricane contract will have various camps including conditioning camp to attend or might attend schools such as power skating school or fighting school (yes there really is one!) to help improve their game.
Camp doesn't start until October 1st. Up until that time the Everblades aren't paying them. Getting them together earlier would require compensation. The NHL clubs can work this, but minor league teams really can't afford it, which is also why players work odd jobs over the summer.
In addition the front office staff is busy with other things including attending the NHL draft, going to the rookie competition and helping out with Carolina's training camp and Lowell's training camp before we start our own training camp in October.
The Everblades will hold walk up tryouts which will get some players invitations to training camp. They may be signed if they do well in training camp so they do like to leave a couple of slots open for players to compete for.
They actually have quite few guys signed now if you count in we know who our goaltenders will be and the players we can expect in from Carolina.
