As a matter of fact Dianna, Varhaug is an awesome hockey player. Even though he is not excellent at skating, he is doing his best. Kevin St.Jacques said (Adirondack Icehawks team captain 2000-2001) "He knows his role and he does his job. Sometimes he may take a bad penalty or two, but who doesn't? He has the mentality to work hard and the thing with Mike, everybody has to remember that he's only 22 years old. He's not 26 or 27 and it's not like he's thirty and not playing. He's developing. I know from that the beginning of the year until now, he can skate with the puck, where in the beginning of the year, he couldn't do both. I definitely think he could play at the next level after 2-3 more years of developing his skating and foot speed. I think he could play in the IHL or the AHL as a tough guy, I really do. Over the summer, he has to get stronger and he's got to work on foot speed. And he'll be the first to tell you that. |
