Has anyone out there noticed the incredible support enjoyed by the Clintons in the mass media? No? Well let me fill you in:
Hilary Clinton, in her bid for senate, has appeared on virtually every talkshow in the country. Her opponent, the previous mayor of Newyork, remains a virtual unknown and does not enjoy these perks.
An interesting point was brought up when she appeared on the David Letterman show. David Letterman remarked that her mother had been interviewed there in 1994. What this suggests is that the chain of power is cyclical in nature. Almost like royal blood.
Bill Clinton, a virtual unknown when he was running against Bush, became infamous overnight through a guest appearence on the Arsenio Hall show. His saxophone antics made him a popular topic for many months to come and maybe even turned an unknown into a president.
What all this amounts to is influence peddling. Established power brokers seem to be holding our hands as we enter the ballot box.
So the next time you see a politician being paraded around in front of the cameras, receiving twice the coverage of anyone else, just remember what democracy stands for - your right to choose.
The decision you make should be a rational one, based on the candidates and the issues, not on face value or the support of famous actors, singers and celebrites.
And to all you millionaire celebrites out there - butt out of political debates and let the people decide for themselves. Your attempts to circumvent democracy will go unchecked no longer.
