At first police were planning to block protesters from marching, they distributed panphlets naming all the different laws they could use to justify arrests. I guess they changed their mind when they saw the content of the crowd. Entire famillies showed up for the festivities, parents brought children even babies. The cops couldn't very well spray kids. I don't know how many people were there, I heard estimates ranging from 2000 to more than 5000. Can't give you any official estimates as the press has decided not to report the event! Thousands of people take to the streets waving signs, wearing costums and it is only mentioned in passing. The press did however provide full coverage of a much smaller gay pride parade. The real protest begins tomorow. I planned to post some pictures but some of the buttons on My digital camera were pressed while in My pack and the pictures were erased.
Day 2 (Monday June 12) in Calgary started with a gathering at Fort Calgary 600 am and street demonstrations at 4th Ave, and 5 street which moved off to 5th Ave. and 1st St. SW. The police continue to outnumber the demonstrators and there is a complete media black out on the almost non-event. The Calgary Sun did report that the march on Sunday was peaceful and did have some picture and story reports. So far the police have acted in a professional manner and at this time all remains peaceful at the demonstration which is moving around in the downtown area. An event information line has been set up and continues updates. Let us hope that this protest will remain peaceful and that the media will open up from their non-reporting and spread a little ink if only to admit there is a demonstration against the WPO and it is peaceful.
The protest in Calgary goes on against globalism at the world petroleum congress without incident as the police continue to outnumber the demonstrators. The local paper Herald has this demonstration on total ignore after casting a shadow of fear calling the demonstrators shadowy, mindless, flakes on a campaign to intimidate, provoke and plague. This was all before the peaceful demonstration even started. What were they trying to do,- incite a riot? Would that be news? When it is peaceful and responsible, then just ignore it right. What can you expect from a paper on strike for 7 months - replacement scabs reporting. The other paper (the one to buy anyway) the Sun, has been mentioning the protest in passing at least. You can bet, any negitive feed coming out of this will hit the papers. Sorry it is so peaceful for your liking, maybe the protesters are not so mindless, extremist or idiots as you decided before it started. An apology would be in order......
Few people have the courage or the conviction to stand against the rising tide of globalism. World this, global that, and always behind closed doors.
Yes, protestors of the conference were denied the right to hold a parade, but the homosexuals were, by no coincidence, allowed to hold theirs - on the first day of the WP conference. So anyone who did show up could be dismissed as a gay marcher.
Isn't it funny how the pawns are played? Perverts are encouraged to flaunt their mental illness in the faces of adults and children alike, but those who oppose the complete disregard for the democratic rights of the people, are told to keep quiet.
Aberta premier Ralph Klein, who attended the secretive conference, spoke of the protest in a very condescending tone, and then went on to launch a less than veiled threat against anyone who would "misbehave" at the conference. They can have their little protest he said, almost sneering.
The fact is that gas prices are through the ceiling, the environment is not being respected and the people are not being consulted on anything.
So I believe that we should all be protesting globalist conferences like these. Scare tactics and media bias should not get in the way of our effort to make people aware of what they stand to lose if they stand still and do nothing.
