FOR THE RECORD

Here are a few interesting statistics from our breakdown map of counties won by George Bush and Albert Gore (http://www.federalist.com/e2000.html) as compiled by law professor Joseph Olson. The last item is, perhaps, the most telling.

Counties won by Bush: 2,434
Counties won by Gore: 677

Population of counties won by Bush: 143 million
Population of counties won by Gore: 127 million

Square miles of country won by Bush: 2,427,000
Square miles of country won by Gore: 580,000

States won by Bush: 29
States won by Gore: 19

And now for the most remarkable finding....

Average Murder per 100,000 residents in counties won by Bush: 0.1
Average Murder per 100,000 residents in counties won by Gore: 13.2

> Population of counties won by Bush: 143 million
> Population of counties won by Gore: 127 million

I guess thats the most important of the stats given, although I would have thought that total population voting for Bush/ Gore would be equally important.

> And now for the most remarkable finding....

> Average Murder per 100,000 residents in
> counties won by Bush: 0.1
> Average Murder per 100,000 residents in
> counties won by Gore: 13.2

That could just mean that the people in the high-murder counties believe Gore has a better strategy for reducing murder, whereas those in the low-murder counties are worried about other things, and believe Bush would deal with them better.

winner vs. whiner

The voice of the people is determined by counting the votes (not counting, then re-counting) It is much better than assassination or soldiers in the street. I know Bush is not a true conservative and that there is not much different between them, but it should be clear that like it or not Gore simply lost so the whiner should concede.

Has the voice of the people truly been heard? Why does the Bush crowd continue to object to a re-count? This was after all an election too close to call. Really do we want someone like Bush as president? He has a lot of death sentences in his home state. What if an innocent person is put to death then later through DNA is found to be not the person responsible? Is not a life term bad enough? Europe is more civilized on these matters. Will not Vice-President Gore fight to change all this? I enjoy my visit to your country, but really you people have to get caught up with the rest of the world. We in Europe set an example you wild people could learn from. Come and visit but leave your guns at home. Paris is nice this time of the year.

RE Voice of the People

Welcome to (OUR COUNTRY) your opinion is well noted.
You have to look at this in the view that we are at war, it is citizen verses criminal. when someone commit an act of violence or Robbery against the people of this country this is an act of war. This is someone that has decided to disregard the law of the people, and try to impose their own will on others. And when this happens it is the duty of the laws of the people to imprison this law breaker and impose a judgment to fit the crime they have committed. If this prisoner has taken lives while declaring war against the laws of our land then he should have to pay the same. In any war there are casualties of war, it is regretful but it happens. To keep these people in prison for years is another crime, it adds to the tax burden of the people. To release the prisoners is to put crime back on the streets just adds to the law breaking army. If we Contuse to let these army's to gain in number, how long do you think it will take for them to have control? We already see it in our bigger cities where people are afraid to walk the streets. Soon it will spread to the rural areas of America. This is the voice of one people!

Another mealy-mouthed bleeding heart liberal. Lets just put more of these convicted murderers away in club Fed and coddle them, wine and dine them and turn them loose on the street so they can kill again. Revolving door, why not play Russian roulette with the lives of good citizens, would'nt want to punish the offender after all. Take away all the guns also so the only people who have guns besides the police and army are criminals. Pampered criminals means more victims, more victims means more clients for parasite lawyer-politicans to defend in court when they get kicked out of parliament. Bring back the death penalty, make it retroactive and dispatch monsters like child killer mass murderer Clifford Olson and others enjoying luxuriance in club Fed. Wake up! sympathy belongs to the victims of crime,- the criminal punishment befitting the crime.

Re Untitled Something we all should know

I guess we all should know this so I am going to tell you. If you check the map of counties that Bush won you will find that he carried 85% of America. While Gore only won 15% of the America counties. He went after the inner city vote, which is the people who vote for the one that promises something for nothing.
These are usually people who are in a low income bracket. That is why the crime rate is higher in those areas.

My view on crime and poverty

December 7 2000, 7:00 AM

RE: City dwellers.
"These are usually people who are in a low income bracket. That is why the crime rate is higher in those areas."

I see several factors which would appear to reverse that image. The welfare system is designed to feed itself. Subsidized housing is built in inner cities as a supposed "area improvement". Qualifications to live in this housing are restricted to certain income levels and total "reported" asset ownership. This provides a list of applicants willing to take lessor jobs or none at all, to "qualify" for housing which many of us can not otherwise afford. It also creates welfare fraud by making it advantageous to hide assets.

Those who spend their lives on crime and drugs have no dependable legal source of income, so they qualify to live in these areas. They may need to conceal their drug activities to qualify, but who ever heard of a govt welfare agent interested in reducing their client load? The solution is always to increase the staff.

We are sold a load of horse pucky about the poor inner city folks on welfare, while our govt conspires to keep them there in ever increasing numbers and then desires to rid the govt schackles of the Electoral Collge so that they can better control those who desire to live free in Real America.

The statistics quoted do not prove anything, especially in the case of homicides. Remember that Clinton-Gore use those same statistics to suggest there is a reason to ban guns and restrict lawful gun ownership. The people in these counties simply accept that Clinton-Gore have a handle on things and so vote Demo. I agree with Andrew on this one. Enough said.
