My first to Arizona was in 1994 as I was driving across America. From Deming, New Mexico, I went west towards Safford and Thatcher via Highway 70. I'll never forget that drive. The scenic beauty and red rock formations were amazing!

Since I'm getting the first post in here, I'm quite excited to hurry up and finish this thread. Thus, I may not give the best details on this first visit to Arizona.

Anyway, I drove a guy whom I met at a NM hostel to Phoenix, and then I headed north to Flagstaff, where I stayed at another hostel for a few days. Of course, I did the obligatory visit to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Then I drove over to Las Vegas, and I distinctly remember being west of Flagstaff, perhaps somewhere going north on Highway 93 (north of Kingman) and thinking to myself, "This is such a beauty land!"

It's true that I settled three years late in Colorado in 1997, and I'm generally quite happy here, but for me, it was "love at first sight" when I saw Arizona. Can anyone else relate?

I went to Arizona in 2000 with my future husband and his family to meet his sister. I loved it! We went to Tucson and Oro Valley. The mountains were spectacular. We also went to this beautiful catus garden named Tohano Chul. It was also my first trip to Mexico. It was such a great vacation! I'd go back in a second!

Man oh man, Captain Kitty, I'm so with you!

I would definitely go back there in a second too. You know, I just might have to some kind of Arizona roadtrip this year. Thanks for posting!

Where exactly is the Oro Valley? Is that near Tucson?

I moved to Tucson, sight unseen in 1998 r/o

I was moving.. but I didn't really know where I was going. Had my car loaded. When I hit Tucson, I knew I was home.

It is, of everywhere I have ever visited, the one place that makes my heart beat the strongest.

I live in Safford now --- it's beautiful here too - but the people are quirky. I'm looking forward to returning to Tucson.

When I moved to Tucson, it was in the midst of the monsoon season and I unloaded my car, racing against the impending thunderstorm. I finished, just in time to sit on the stairs and watch the beauty of nature as she worshipped her creator.

It's right next to Tucson. It's a suburb. I sometimes think that I want to move their, but the summers there scare me. It's so bloody hot in the summer! but the rest of the year is lovely.
