My first to Arizona was in 1994 as I was driving across America. From Deming, New Mexico, I went west towards Safford and Thatcher via Highway 70. I'll never forget that drive.
The scenic beauty and red rock formations were amazing!
Since I'm getting the first post in here, I'm quite excited to hurry up and finish this thread. Thus, I may not give the best details on this first visit to Arizona.
Anyway, I drove a guy whom I met at a NM hostel to Phoenix, and then I headed north to Flagstaff, where I stayed at another hostel for a few days. Of course, I did the obligatory visit to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. Then I drove over to Las Vegas, and I distinctly remember being west of Flagstaff, perhaps somewhere going north on Highway 93 (north of Kingman) and thinking to myself,
"This is such a beauty land!"
It's true that I settled three years late in Colorado in 1997, and I'm generally quite happy here, but for me, it was "love at first sight" when I saw Arizona. Can anyone else relate?
