Now southern Colorado has plenty of types of cacti, for which I'm grateful for. The main kinds I see out here are the prickly pear and "walking stick" cacti. But man oh man, there's nothing like a towering saguaro standing proudly in front of an Arizona sunset. Know what I mean?

Saguaro. One of the legends is that on certain nights of the year, there are saguaro festivals, and all the saguaro gather in the valley at midnight and dance.
When the sun rises, they have to freeze in place.
Which is why so many of the saguaros appear to be dancing - multiple arms akimbo.
There is a pair of saguaro in Tucson.. that appear to be dancing together. They have grown in sucbh a manner that one appears to be "dipping" the other.
It's amazing.
I love it.

I have GOT TO do a saguaro pictorial someday.
By the way folks, here's a photo of me kissing a "walking stick" cactus:
there's an urban legend about a couple who buys a saguaro from Arizona and brings it home. one day, the cactus appears to be breathing in and out. they call a botanist who tells them to get the cactus out of the house immediately. When the saguaro is outside, it explodes and hundreds of little tarantulas come running through the yard. This stroy is completely fake, but it's been spread around for several years as truth!
