When I lived in New Jersey in the early 90's (as a very young adult in my early 20's), I used to buy New Mexico Magazine off the racks and dream. Here's the link if you're interested in reading online. It's still quite an interesting publication: http://nmmagazine.com/

I hate to break this to some of you, but my original dream was to settle in Las Cruces, New Mexico, not the Pikes Peak region in Colorado. (Long story about how I arrived and settled here - perhaps that could be another thread!)

Love, Steve

New Mexico Mag is a great publication

I like the stories and photos presented in the mag. I didn't know NM Magazine was available on the racks in New Jersey?! I thought it was in limited production. I'M also glad you didn't move to Las Cruces. There is a mountain vista east of town but it doesn't compare to Pikes Peak!

NM magazine

I have bought this magazine for years off and on and love it. I have my old issues laying around at work and pull them out to drool and dream occasionally. Yep they sell it on all the racks here around Chicago.

Where do you think those New Mexicans make their money? From all us touristas!

Seriously though I will have to check out the online version. I seldom buy magazines anymore since they are so readily available online now.

I get old ones in the used book shop too

where do they get their money? - many make it elsewhere and then move to New Mexico - there is a huge OLD hippie population in a town near Taos

wealthy wealthy hippies
there are a lot of really rich people in New Mexico which diminish the poor areas which you see

it's not cheap to shop in New Mexico
it's so full of talented artists that it boggles my mind

all sorts of crafts people - it's amazing to see

New Mexico

Hey ya'll... just stumbled across your site and found it interesting. Steve, my sis lives in Colorado Springs in the shadow of the Peak, and I live next door to Cruces... just a bit reversed of your desires. I'm hoping to make the road trip to the Springs later this summer, lugging my trusty Nikon along. I too, used to love New Mexico Magazine, (or was that New Mexico Highways?) when I grew up in northern Virginia. Now I do the roads myself as I can on weekends. If I can't be back east in the mixed deciduous forests and Blue Ridge Mountains, it's a great relief to get out of the city of El Paso and into the release of New Mexico's rural ranges - particularly those areas along the Mesilla Valley and the Rio Grande. If you or your readers are interested, I've concentrated a lot of my photo ops in south central New Mexico at http://community.webshots.com/user/barnchaser Hope to see ya'll there!

Charlotte, welcome to the web site!

Do you know that when I moved west in 1997, that I had originally planned to live in Las Cruces? I love it there!

Ah, the beautiful mountain and desert terrain of southern New Mexico. Sigh!

Love, Steve

    Sunset Magazine

    July 25 2005, 1:43 PM

I do the same with Sunset Magazine sometimes. The mag is targeted to promote all of the western states though and not just NM. It is beautifully done and makes me dream of places to live in the west. I miss being there much of the time. Lou and I will definately be moving at some point in the future.
