Hello to all..great website!!I have been looking at all the posts here and I have a question for all of you that know New Mexico...My husband and I would like to live where it is not terribly hot in summers and nice landscapes, whether it is desert or mountains..I don't want huge snow falls either..I would like to have water around (within driving distance)also for fishing/swimming...I just can't seem to find that area within New mexico..Please help, we are considering flying out there to look but have limited time..Jobs are not an issue since my husband is on disability from work-related injury...Husband needs to get outta the cold montana winters(30 below here sometimes)--I have looked into Edgewood/Moriarty and house prices seem reasonable but can't find that much out about the area(have looked into their websites but it wasn't enough info)
Can anyone recommend an area for me? We are in our 50's and altho we're active, will need medical services as we age..I am SOOOO confused--HELP please!!!! Is NM for us, or do we need to look at other states?!!Thanks to all-- Montanagirl54

Oh boy...

Oh boy, you have a lot of requirements there. I'm not sure if any town can meet all of them. Summers are mainly hot in New Mexico, unless you're way in the mountains in the north part of the state.

As for me, I wouldn't be against considering living in small southern and southwest NM towns such as Truth or Consequences, Silver City or Deming.

Moriarity

May 20 2007, 10:25 AM

Hi--my kids lived in Moriarity with their mom and graduated HS there. Edgewood and Moriarity are nice areas though.

Because it is located on the east side of the Sandias, they do get some snowfalls....big one at times too.

The summers can get pretty warm there too.

Being new to AZ, I have heard an area like Prescott (north of phoenix) might fit the profile you are looking for....it is a beautiful area with mild year round weather.

i like the Aztec-Cedar Hill area myself

It's north of Farmington, NM close to the CO border.

I'm not sure of land/housing availability, but is a quiet rural area with the Animas river flowing through, and Navajo Lake State park close by. Durango, CO is 25-40 minutes away from this area. Summers are in the upper 80s-low 90s (like Billings summers), and winters are more mild than Montana. The snow isn't deep or long lasting in this area, for a perspective.
