beware i GOTTA go now after rereading and i will come back to edit.
you can read it and if it gets confusing just make up your own stroy about all this.let me start by saying since i stopped working in a major level I trauma center. my last 2 jobs there were as a life flight helicopter dispatcher, then a secretary type inside the brade new 14 room operating room area. hated Life flight, LOVED the O.R.
afterwards i 'stopped" working(long story) altogether. a couple years after that i worked as a flower deliver 3 days a week. HTHAT was one of my all time favorite jobs. i made pennies, but just loved going around in my new truck with my 1st service dog listening to music bring happiness to all.(and i got tips amounting to a total of $3.00 in 3 years)I never knew folks tipped flower deliverer. seems ackward at best, holding flowers, getting money out, or even thinking of it at a time when in the midst of a big surprise. tho one guy offered me a joint!
all this to say mysilient montra when i could feel the tension in the flower shop and a mistake was made or someone didn't get what they wanted, I'd say to myself"nobody died". obviously that is what happened if i or those around me made mistakes at my previous employment.
yesterday my montra had to come out a couple times.
as is not unusual i took all 3 dogs to the groomer. i have been going this same groomer since the 80's with my very first dog. Riki was the prettiest dalmation i have ever seen. 2 have come close, maybe even tired. and she was sweeter than sweet. as for smart? well she got by on her looks and her attitude towards life. she even had her OWN friends. seriously kids and even a neighbor would stop over and see if riki could come out to play. she did pet therapy in a really nasty nursing home for a year when she was 11 years old!
opps back to groomer. turtle was holding the 2 small dog on the 2-thingie leash, and i had Zoey on my leash. my groomer's name is diane, and as usual she took Zoey first. zoey went right into the kennel as usual but this time within SECONDS turtle Diane and i heard BLOOD CURDLING dogs screams like maybe a dog fight, tho no growling. diane had zip around in another second, still with a small dog under her arms. i went into some horrible state when the screams of my baby seemed to go on and on and on and on and on. Turtle was waving the younger women to come over towards diane and zoey. the 2 girls were zoned out, or numb or paralized or , well stupid. when i turned around to look, to me it looked liike zoey's paws had been caught under the grating of the kennel. i just turned away once another employee went up there. all this time Zoey's screaming continued.
what seemed like forever!!!!! Zoey stopped screaming and diane still holding the small dog, got up. i asked what happened. it took diane a LONG time to tell me.I said "Pls let me see her" she hopped out of the crate, diane had already checked her out. she was happy to see me....for 2 second and then ran over to sniff another dog in a kennel, si knew she was ok.I turned to Diane, she was shaking, finally handing off the small do, . i stayed with diane for a second, i hugged her, she let the tears come. in all those years maybe almost 30 she has always been the picture of cheerfulness and patience.
now, what happened you ask.
zoey is at once brilliant problem solver and stupid, but bottom line it was completely my fault.
since she goes everywhere with me, i mean everwhere. the over nights at a hospital 2 years ago, she was there even overnight. If i were to go to an indoor concert or estate sales i would leave her home. she likes going to the movie theater, and i play my music in thr car loudly and she shows no issues.
we were going to cirq and i did not get hanicapp seats, which would be needed cuz the seats were cramped so close and the actor/performers run up and down the aisles.
so this was a rare night i put her in her kennel with a safe chewie. the 2 little kids are used to it and don't mind a bit.
when we got home, there was zoey at the door to great us!!!
I realized i only latched the top latch and she was smart enough to figure it out.
I checked her paws, as i thot that was how she was able to pull down on the one of 2 latches on the kennel. I saw how easy it is to undo, when one only puts 1/2 the latch on.
zoey got her teeth CAUGHT in the rungs of the kennel!!! i know this is why. we went to cirq a MONTH go!!!
so once i was confortable leaving and leaving her(no bleeding, mouth not tender) I was late for my foot appointment.
we raced over there. I have been getting injections for a nerve problem that seems to be common, called Morton's neuroma.i had it in a different but close place. well uh oh, not the same, can't just shoot me up, i had to have exrays.
when the xrays came back there was a largish white lump. I get so paranoid so easily since i battled and won breast ca. years ago.i had 2 cancer scares this year alone. this docotr who loves to swap stoies during an apponitement and enjoy the ways our lives have crossed. not now but for many years he lived in my neighborhood and a dog or 2 of mine thru the years have walked by his house. he LOVES dogs and had hylarious stories. i was greatful he rested me assured it is nothing serious justh ard to control the pain.
he told me to get those rocker sneakers that got sued, can't think of the name, oh Shape-ups. and that takes the weight off the ball of the foot. these are the sneakers that got their butts sued for false advertising saying they would shape up your calves and whatever animal, i mean body parts better than a regular shoe. foot doc said since the suit the price has come way down, what they DO help is a condition like mine. it was not a bone spur, but looked like on on the xray.
so while on the luggage hunt(of which now BOTH Of us are taking ours back today)yesterday we added 'shape ups' to our indevours. Doc also told me to take out the inserts or use any inserts. he said to put lipstick and put it on my foot where i hurt, tranfere the lipstick to the shoe insert, and cut a hole where the lipstick is. made sense to me. I have made other holes in soles for hammer-toe issues, so all that was new was the lipstick. he impressed me.
i'll admit i am bummed that i could not just have a shot, cuz they work SO well and for so long!!!
he also made me feel SO much better when i told him why my feet were STILL shaking.(the insident with zoey) and he made me feel SO much better by telling me how he was shoveling dirt, missed somehow and hit his bog right up saide his head! and then once he was swinging a log at his beach house and didn't know his big dog had walked up. that had to have had HUGE impact. then there was this pause....
I said "and?????" and he said "and nothing. dogs are amazing". so i told Turtle the ultimate dog lover(amoung all of us here)and she so sweetly said "it was an accident?" I laughed when i realized i just KNEW it was. Turtle has not owned a dog. flower is her step child and she freaks when a dog barks at her baby).
so flash forward a couple hours, zoey and the little kids are still at groomer and all is well.
we are at the mall and that alone makes it not good for me. I found a 4-wheeled drive suitcase at sears(yawn)bought it. we were looking at shoes as we mozeed(sp?) down and back and down the mall looking for her suitcase and my new "medically nesseccary" sneakers. doc told me to be SURE to walk around for a long time cuz somepoeple that use the shape ups or rocker shoes as i kept calling them, can often feel like the 1st step you feel like you are going to face plant! i stopped into Nordstrom and the nice (CUTE) shoe salesman said all their shape ups went to the Rack, the name of our discount Nordstrom. he had it saved under his name , kevin. the rack is right across the street and parking lot form the mall. easy.
We were walking into the front doors of The Rack, and completely out of the blue i said the cute salesman's name to be sure i still remembered. my voice can carry at times. this next part is called...."what are the odds?" turtle was somehow a few steps behind me, so i might have looked like i was alone, without Zoey it can make me look like i am talking to myself. thats another of zoey's duties, she makes me look like i have someone else besides my self i am talking to, without my having to hold a phone to my ear.
