He got a few opportunities to run sprints for Chula Vista early in his career (soph year, his first) and reportedly ran 22-range in the 220. But Chula had plenty of speed (their sprint relay team went to state meet that year), so Danielson moved up. In his senior year, he won the league final in the 440 in the low 50-point range, in addition to winning the mile. He played football until his senior year, when he switched to cross country, so that gives you an idea of his all-around athleticism.
