Encourage don't Discourage

All the athletes that ran in there league championships are the best in the county. I am anxious to see the results from Saturdays prelims. Every year there are plenty of break out performance in league meets. That is an indication of good training and coaching. Those individuals that run there fastest times of the season in May instead of March, are being train properly. If you look at the schools in the Grossmont Conference, the majority of those schools have good coaches. Many of the athletes in that conference peak around league and CIF. Steele Canyon, Granite Hills, Helix, Valhalla, EL Cap, all have coaches that do a really good job of preparing their athletes for championship season. It's not a shock to see Steele run 3:17, or Helix have an athlete run 10.7 it happens every year. The wind helps, but those athletes have run great times without the wind. Chad Smith from El Cap has had a tremendous season, breaking several school records. Can anyone besides Chris Ruff remember the last time El Cap had an sprint performances like this?

As mention already on this board earlier, we as a SD track community need to celebrate our athletes, not diminish them. Every year, every coach I sit next to at the State meet is pulling for all the SD athletes. There is tons of congratulatory hand shakes and hugs. That is the way it should be, no animosity just cheers. I really wish we could stop trying to bring each other down on this board. Some of the athletes mentioned on this board are wonderful kids. I had an opportunity to talk with the young ladies from El Camino at the Mt. Miguel Elite meet. All of them were extremely polite and full of light. I will always give credit where it's due, and those young ladies along with others in the county that are working hard have my sincerest admiration. But the negativity is reaching an all time high. I'm starting to miss all the smack talking that use to happen, at least that was in the spirit of competition. All this haterade that is being passed around is just depressing.

There are only two true sports: Track and Cross Country.
All the rest are just games.
