This was one of the greatest girls dual meets I've seen in a while.
LCC 27, Escondido 28
LCC went 1,3,5,8,10.
Escondido went 2,4,6,7,9.
On the boys side:
LCC 23, Escondido 34.
Darren Fahy won on a tough 5K course at Fallbrook with a time of 16:16 - only 16 seconds off Brett Hasvold's course record of 16:00.

If you must.........this is provided that everyone is healthy. This is for Division I.
Div. I Boys Team (RBV, Poway, Patrick Henry or Otay Ranch) - Top three individuals (Brewer, Urie, and Blumberg.
Div. I Girls Team (TP, RBV, RB) - Top three individuals....no brainer (Grabill, Morgan, and Billmeyer). If MC was in D-1, Menefee would be up there around 3rd.
Now, they have to go out there and do it.

Patrick Henry was moved to Division 2 this year. Urie and Blumberg are the prohibitive favorites to win that race. Other than that, I agree with your assessment. TP is also a very strong team and could easily contend for a #1, 2 or 3 spot.

The races begin at 8:30 with the JV Girls and every 30 min. after that another race. So JV Boys are at 9:00, Varsity Girls at 9:30, and Varsity Boys are at 10:00

I set the wiki up yesterday and am trying to find editors for the league meets.
So far I have someone to do Grossmont, Imperial Valley, Frontier and Central (me).
I'd like for editors to add a little pre-finals color and results.
For those leagues I don't get an editor for, I'll just post results as they come in.

What I am about to write is some hearsay, so if I am wrong in anyway please step up and set the record straight.
In the early 80's Dos Picos Park was Ramona's home meet location. Somehow it was switched out to Ramona Oaks in the mid 80's and has been there at that location until this year.
A couple of years ago OPMS xc coach and parents started mapping out a course at Dos Picos used by the middle school for their fundraisers/invitationals. From there the high school course was developed by those same parents/current coaches and mapped out to what was run on Friday. That was the first time the Ramona High School ran that course as their home course this season.
The develop of the current course took some doing. It was told to me, they had to get a permit to bring in a tractor to grade the trail to make it to what you saw. Those gophers holes are a killer on ankles. They started on Monday early morning then worked during their lunch hour on the course and then a couple of hours in the late afternoon all last week.
I would like to thank the staff at Dos Picos for working with the those trying to get this course up and running. Also Joey and Crew get a thank you!!! Maybe if Joey sees this post he can also mention who helped him, I wasn't told who.
So that was my round about way of saying your welcome! Can't wait to see the rest of the Valley league up there running at Dos Picos Park next season.

is a great site and Ramona is to be commended for getting it back and using it as a course. Give it some time over the next two years and it will be a excellent course.
You folks did a great job hosting the meet and we would come there anytime to compete.

We agree Ramona did a great job. We were expecting a different outcome for their course. Have to say it was one of the nicer marked courses. Would of made a great place to race at earlier on in the season during those hot spells with all the trees shading the course. Dennis your team dominated once again, great job. Great race all in all.

Joe Cortez, Damon Blankenbaker, Mike Hughes, and my assistant coach Steve Emery were the ones that organized the meet and deserve the thanks. They took a lot of time getting the course race ready by filling holes, flattening the ground, and setting up the start/finish as well as the timing system. I appreciate the feedback from Dennis and everyone else and we will take it into consideration for next year.

A poster above suggested that perhaps the 2007 RBV boys did the same --- I don't think they did and the 2007 Athletic.net results do not have any info to check on those stats for RBV...it was a great team - but I don't think they equaled the performance of this Poway squad.
Can any coach show a team as deep as Poway on the Guajome course?
Whatever Poway does the next few weeks - I think this is an outstanding accomplishment!

Here's an email I got last night from Carl Brandt (the guy with the beard under the Movin' Shoes canopy at most invites)...
Thought you might like a photo of Ben E at the Heps at van Cortlandt Park last Friday. Also attached is a photo of Sammy Silva. I was also able to talk with Ryan Graddy from Torrey Pines (Brown) and Nihal Kiyali from La Jolla (Yale) and her brother Murat who graduated from Yale last year. Good stuff. and Meb's win in the marathon on
Sunday made the weekend even sweeter. Photo of Meb/Ryan Hall/ Jorge Torres also attached. see you, Carl Brandt/Movin Shoes

That was my mistake - I sent that to George Green, but Coach Dockery corrected me and it was changed for the paper - North Co. Times got it right in their reporting - I haven't seen the Tribune - but it should be correct there. I am sorry - I apologize.

at socal and the poway/ec/cbad meet the finish was pushed back.. only at the rb/rbv/vista meet did the athletes go around that tree for the finish. i also believe the finish for the pow/ec/cbad meet was pushed back to compensate for distance. i think the times are pretty close to one another...

Jan 23rd All Comers Meet - CA Indoor State Meet Qualifying Meet
by
Below is a meet that we will be holding at Del Norte High School this pre-season. As explained below, the meet will be run simultaneously with other meets across the state with the same events. This is an all-comer's meet as well. Youth athletes and HS athletes just trying to get a race in are of course welcome. For insurance purposes, an active USATF membership will be required in order to compete.
Price for the All-Comers meet is TBD at this point.
California State High School Indoor Invitational
Ca. State HS Invit.
The meet will run in conjunction with the Run for the Dream meet in Fresno, Ca on Feb. 6, 2010. There will be a set of running and field events with 2 relays (see attached for schedule of events).
There will be 6 qualifying meets held on Jan. 23, 2010 around California for the Feb. 6th meet. There will be 3 meets in Southern California and 3 meets in Northern California. The list of qualifying meets will be:

The indoor distance instead of 800M will be 600y as is often the case with indoor meets. The indoor 4x160 is the relay run by the Old Sunkist Meet(Franken Meets) in the LA Coliseum, obviously because the track is 160 in length. I'm assuming that the All-Comers meet will be run in the traditional 4x100 format for obvious reasons. However, I think the 600 will be held in yards as that is a feasible undertaking to adjust to on the track.

So here's what I think to be the top 10 combined male and female programs this season:
1 Rancho Buena Vista
2 Torrey Pines
3 Poway
4 Rancho Bernardo
5 Mt Carmel
6 Cathedral
7 Escondido
8 Steele Canyon
9 Westview
10 La Costa Canyon
These are just my opinions. If a team has either side (boys or girls) pretty high but the other still good, such as Torrey, then their ranking went up. In other words, one side influenced the other.
Posted on Nov 3, 2009, 11:54 AM from IP address 69.105.138.144
Well, I feel as if this is incorrect.
the TP girls have been ranked as high as #1 in the nation and boys only about 4th or 3rd in County stuff. I would have to say that TP is the best combined team, where rbv sneaks in right behind them. with a number 1/2 boys team and a solid number 2 girls team, they only lose out to tp because the girls are ranked nationally. I think that the order clearly goes 1. TP 2. RBV. 3. Poway 4. RB
Posted on Nov 5, 2009, 11:04 PM from IP address 98.155.39.155
TP girls have never been ranked 1st nationally. It's always been Fayetteville-Manlius for the past two years(defending NXN champs), Saugus, and Saratoga Springs HS. I

It was a great race this morning...Meb looked great the entire way. Around mile 17-18 the pack went from 12 down to 6 and Meb was the only American left. Good job to Ryan Hall, Jorge Torre, and Abdi who were all top 10 I believe.

Ok, this is an impossible task! That said, here we go... I grabbed 2.75 mostly Movin Shoes
and 3.0 which is a total mix from wicked fast Woodbridge, to City Course, ending with Mt. Sac.
All on Athletic.net. Some race in many ... others do not. So if you beat someone head-to-head
then you jump ahead. Sometimes there's a split, then use the next best distance to break time.
Anyhow grabbed the best 12 out of each distance, and then tried to slot them in the best order
with the above rules. Perfect, probably not--close (enough). A bunch of talented girls in this
class!!! PS I'm sure I missed someone, so please slot them in and correct. :>) Or rearrange?

they are a little disappointing for 2 reasons
1- they r OVERALL team rankings (not by division)
2- they show very little love to SDS
(TP girls are only listed team, falling to #4, and no boys teams present)

By the way, the girl that got 2nd from Washington is wayyyyyy to thin. Nice to see that most of the girls look healthy and strong and not super thin and sickly.

The Ivy League Championship in Cross Country was held today in NYC.
The men's and women's races were examples of opposite ways to win as team.
In the women's race, Princeton held all 5 top places. That is correct, the team score was 15. Pretty hard to lose that way. This is reminiscent of the Stanford men a few years back winning NCAAs by dominating the top of the race. Their 6th man was in the top 10 but didn't point.
The only San Diegans I recognize are Sammy Silva (Harvard) at 12 (17:53.7, 5:46/5k ) and Lauren Pischel 13 (17:55.6 5:46).
The men's race was completely opposite: Every runner counts from 1-5 on every team.
Here are the first, second and fifth team scores:
1 Columbia Univ 60 = 5 8 12 15 20
Total Time: 2:08:52.6 ( 12) ( 25:46.5)
Brendan Martin; Kyle Merber; Terence Prial; Justin Heck; Anthony Merra
======================================================================================
2 Princeton 61 = 3 6 11 18 23
Total Time: 2:09:03.9 ( 11) ( 25:49.8)
Brian Leung; Donn Cabral; Rob Speare; Mark Amirault; Sean Wilson
======================================================================================
5 Brown Univ 106 = 2 7 10 43 44
Total Time: 2:10:39.5 ( 12) ( 26:08.9)
Christian Escareno; Duriel Hardy; John Loeser; Austin Snyder; John Haenle
Note that both Harvard and Brown undercut Columbia with their first three, but Columbia won based on its 4 and 5, beating Princeton by just 1 point.
Harvard finished 6th in spite of having the race winner.

Can anyone show me a link or a breakdown guess of the top 10 div 1 & 2 Boys & Girls? Would like a individual seperate list of each, & having a hard time creating one of my own. Not familiar with some of the names I've come across. Thanks

Real easy. If you look above on this page and click on the Athletic.net link it will take you to a main page where you will find all the division link. Click on the division you are looking for and it list the top 100 runners broken down by sexes and the times they ran for 5000 m. Now this list is only going to show those school/athletes who participate on that website. At least you can start with the list there and the fill in where needed.

they are in division 1
bonita vista is in division 2
but i quite clearly remember tht being switched
is there anwhere a list of d1 vs d2 list as per the TRUE cif

for anyone with the same question
the answer can b found in the cif finals information link at the top of the page
to fill out the top 10 of my previous list
Alex Jafek has the next fastest 5K PR- a 16:12 at So Cal
but I would give the last spot in the top 10 to connor jaramillo, Poway's #1 who ran a great Mt Sac but whose 5K resume is poor simply because he has only run 1 5K a dual vs RBV
THere's some trivia for you...
The Poway Varsity XC team has run a grand total of ONE 5K race this year
Posted on Oct 30, 2009, 9:08 PM from IP address 71.136.44.163
All you need to do is go through the results from Mt SAC to see how the rankings are off. The front teams are fine but the 5 through 10 teams are off. Some teams should be ahead of others and other teams should be in the top 10 that aren't. Many mistakes but here is 1 major example:
Claremont girls not in the top 10 (You coaches are crazy)
Posted on Oct 28, 2009, 9:16 AM from IP address 209.66.200.40
Probably not that far off on the guys side, though I still think Poway is beter than Patrick Henry. It's a toss up between them and RBV. I think Torrey definitely belongs in the top 4 discussion too.
On the girls side, Poway moved up...maybe too much (though, they did run well at SAC). Clairemont girls should be in the top 7.
Posted on Oct 28, 2009, 11:30 AM from IP address 168.215.220.82
When did Clairemont beat LCC or Cathedral? LCC and Cathedral have not run their top girls all in one race in quite awhile. Coronado hasn't had a fully healthy group yet. Why not wait to the end of the year to make this list? And then, why even compare? LCC is D1 I think, Coronado is D4, Clairemont and Cathedral are D3 the only way you should compare is by Division...the rest should be just for fun.

Otay Ranch is the best south of the Highway 54 and West of the 125, up North of those Highways there are many good teams. They are defiantly in Top 3-4-5-6-7 range at CIF. It all depends on who is healthy the weather, tide, moon, and of course where Jupiter is.

Mt. SAC thrown a curve
Pasadena Star-News Online
College: Mt. SAC thrown a curve
Course improvements call into question the validity of new marks
October 18, 2001
By Richard Gonzalez
Staff Writer
October, 2000: Glendale Hoover High's Anita Siraki stuns the national prep
cross country community when she breaks the Mt. San Antonio College course
record by a stunning 17 seconds.
November, 2000: Big Bear High's Ryan Hall runs the Mt. SAC course in
14:28, slicing four seconds off Jeff Nelson's 22-year-old boys course
record.
November, 2000: Don Lugo High's Erick Maldonado smashes the sophomore boys
course record as five of the six fastest 10th-grade course times in
history are achieved. All told, a whopping 39 revisions are made to the
all-time grade lists.
Oddly enough, these standout runners have enjoyed ample success before and
since, but not quite to the degree achieved recently along the revered
2.95-mile Mt. SAC course.
Well, maybe it's because the course had been shortened to 2.91 miles.
Mt. SAC cross country women's coach Doug Todd has confirmed in three
separate interviews since last November that the course has indeed been
shortened, an end result of safety concerns, course upgrades and
environmental effects.
"We struggled not to make the changes, because the Mt. SAC course and the
meet are so steeped in history," said Todd, who oversees this weekend's
conclusion of the 54th annual Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational, the
nation's largest.
"Some changes were unavoidable, but it doesn't make accepting the changes
any easier."
The most notable change was reconfiguring a portion of the "Valley Loop"
as a safety matter. With the number of entrants swelling to match the
meet's growth in popularity, maneuvering along the original course's
sharp, jutting turn less than a minute into the race created logistical
problems.
Mt. SAC staff changed it to a sweeping and easier to navigate path, which
Todd estimates cut about five seconds off each loop or 10 seconds per
runner off the double loop. If his estimate is accurate, that translates
to roughly a 50-second team-time (five runners) improvement over
"pre-renovation" years.
Additionally, heavy rains a few years ago caused erosion along some
patches of the course. Throw in the beautification steps imposed in recent
years a wider running path, planting of shade-producing trees along the
route, and considerable landscaping to improve footing and the
once-imposing course becomes a more inviting one.
"We try to respect history and tradition, yet safety becomes a factor too
... a much more important factor," said Mt. SAC men's coach Mike Goff, who
is the one entrusted with the upkeep of the course.
"If course historians have a problem with it, I understand," Goff added.
"At the same time, if we can improve the course to maximum conditions for
runners, that's great, too. Bottom line, the best teams and runners will
still win."
The only drawback now is that the ever-popular time comparisons by
generations of runners might lack integrity, since the course has changed.
It used to be when one California runner would meet another, the first
question was: "What's your best time at Mt. SAC?"
Regardless, the course still offers a tough test to challengers.
"Well, Mt. SAC's been too hot, too dusty, too slow, too crowded, too
hard," said Goff, echoing some critics over the years. "And now... they
say it's too fast. That's a new one."

so poway and rbv have locked in the top 2 spots??
i think NOT
in my opinion otay ranch is very much alive
(VERY close to TP at SAC)
TP looks good
(won race at Mt SAC)
RBV just really turned on
(fastest team time at SAC)
RB has speed
(winner at Stanford)
Poway is alive
(consistently good)
it will a SUPER CIF race
and i surely surely don't think any 2 spots are locked in
Posted on Oct 26, 2009, 9:23 PM from IP address 71.136.44.163
Poway is far better than alive. They didnt run great at SAC, but they are much better than that race would show...as shown by their performances at Dana, RB dual, RBV dual, Laguna Hills, etc.
Posted on Oct 26, 2009, 11:42 PM from IP address 72.197.206.236
MT SAC scores based on time - if it were a five school race, were in this order - RBV (56), TP, OTAY/POWAY (these 3 very close - 74-77), Patrick Henry (86) and then RB (129) way behind. On a healthy day, these could change.
Posted on Oct 27, 2009, 6:46 AM from IP address 72.197.211.173
did you notice that RB's Geoff Bogan (who has beaten Andrew Ward twice before this race, who ran a 1520) ran a 16:25, 5 seconds ahead of their 3rd runner? And to go even further, that 3rd runner is usually 5th on the RB squad? How can you knock RB out when it appears they were either missing their 3 and 4 runners, or they were not full health. People have to look into things before jumping to conclusions. If everyone has a healthy/good day at CIf it will be a hell of a race. RBV put up strong numbers beating Poway in the team sweeps. TP and Otay ran well in the Individuals, along with Patrick Henry. RB and Poway didnt run to their top forms unfortunately for them. As of right now, there is no "set top 3" There are 5 very good teams that will all be chasing 3 spots. (I did not count PH in there solely because they are D-2).

Re: still got 4 weeks...whomever staves off the flu the best will run in Fresno!!!
by Anonymous Coward
RBV and Poway will compete for 1st and 2nd. TP ran well at Mt SAC and proved that they will be a contender. RB ran poorly, as their 1, 3 and 4 runners were absent or unhealthy. Unlike Poway, who can have a few guys off their game and still compete, RB has no of depth. If everyone runs healthy and their best it will be a race for third.
Poway has beaten RBV, RB and TP. RBV has beaten Poway, RB and TP. RB has beaten TP and RBV. It should be extremely close with leagues being a great preview.
Posted on Oct 27, 2009, 2:18 PM from IP address 64.73.154.68
Yo let me throw this out there...remember it was said in a previous post that Brewer and Ward are the best LOOKING runners. That being said the results will be as follows.

wow dude. call otay ranch garbage? you are a douche. otay has quality runners (luiz medina and jacob effing roach) and last year they finished fourth in cif and only lost a few seniors to graduation. think about what you're talking about you ignorant creep.

you are way too cocky. its really pathetic. unless its some big joke that you keep up with your team mates and you think you are the funniest guy in the world.

This years cif race will be a great one for sure. And has anyone noticed how tp's 2 and 3 runners are such a great team? and also i think poway and rbv are solid. rb is strong when their team puts together a good race. tp is looking fairly good and it looks like they're gonna peak at the right time

Since the race is over, how would most coaches say is the best way to run Mt. Sac? Pace yourself the first mile or take it out with the pack? Work the uphills or ease up a bit and smash the downhills? What combination seems to work best?

its good to run with the pack and stay relaxed because the beginning is very fast so you want to take advantage of it but kill yourself before the hill. as far as the hills go. definitely dont push them too hard because despite what some people say it is the downhills and the flats after the hills where the race is won.
