I have a similar problem, only instead of losing lucidity, I actually come to consciousness. It's really aggravating. Being that lucidity is likely a sort of teetering-point beween consciousness and subconsciousness, I suppose that going lucid by itself is exciting, but not enough to draw me into consciousness. However, if I start having *too much fun*, it pushes me over the edge and I wake right up. I'm guessing that just the right degree of lucidity is required. Any more than that, and the mind just becomes so aware of its surroundings that it even becomes aware of the bed, the sheets, et cetera.

I tend to fly a lot in my dreams. I also tend to die a lot, although not as much as I used to. And I never have nightmares anymore - not for many years.
