I already posted in the Kitchen, but since I am new here I thought I should step back to the porch and introduce myself. So hi, I'm Tina. Lisa and I were classmates in college and I used to be on her old 2AM BBS way back in the dark ages when dialup was prevalent and the web was almost unheard of. I recently found her again on LJ and saw the link to this board, so here I am.
A few boring things about me: I'm 35 and I live in the Washington, DC suburbs with my husband, Ray (who was also a college classmate) and three cats. We're childfree by choice, and we both work at AOL -- a very, um, interesting place to be working right now in the face of many upheavals and changes...but in spite of that, I like my job. Before AOL relocated us here, we lived in South Florida for 3 years (a nice place to vacation but not so great to live in...though the scuba diving was nice); and before that we both spent pretty much our whole lives in NJ...and I never want to move back there. We do get back for visits a few times a year since both our families still live there.
Despite the fact that I'm a geek and not very feminine in many ways (DH and I joke that he's the woman in our relationship), I'm also more domestic than I usually care to admit: I do most of the cooking (my husband cleans up), I love to bake, I've been crocheting most of my life (I even crocheted my
wedding dress), and a couple years ago I also taught myself to knit so I could make sweaters that weren't so thick they could only be worn in Arctic temperatures (a drawback to crochet fabric). Nowadays I knit more than I crochet, but I figure I spent enough years crocheting that I can do something else for a while!
Oh, and although I hate gardening (it's hot, sweaty, dirty work and the mosquitoes
love me), I keep an herb garden which produces enough basil to keep us in pesto for the entire year even though I haven't planted any since 2003, the year we moved into the house (since then it's kept on reseeding itself); there's also some thyme, oregano and sage, which I usually just dry. We have a couple flower patches and we pay someone to mow the lawn, but otherwise, we mostly just let stuff grow wild. The previous owners of our house would probably cry to see the state of the yard now, but we have other things to do!
