Sad news

I just thought I should let those of you who knew I was pregnant that I'm losing the baby to this pretty awful neural tube defect: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/anencephaly/anencephaly.htm

I'm doing alright, but am understandably sad about all of this. I have to have a D&C this afternoon.

Thanks to all of you who had earlier sent me posts/email of congratulations. They were appreciated, and I truly enjoyed sharing the happy part of this journey with you all.

(If you've already seen this on one of the other various internet places I frequent, no need to reply to me again. I just wanted those who only know me from the Polka Dot Cottage to know what has happened.)

When I get back on my feet, how about we all spend some time getting this board active again? Wouldn't it be nice? There's so much potential here that I know I've let slip over the last several months. It would be nice to try and build a community here, I think.

Did they find this thru an ultra sound?

You will be in my thoughts!

Yes, it was an ultrasound.

They are now doing routine u/s at 12 weeks or so and using that along with a quad screen blood test to be a more accurate screen for chromosomal abnormalities (as opposed to the triple screen test they were doing the first two times I was pregnant - I'd opted out before, but decided to do it this time since I am older now). I never even got to the blood test part, the u/s was so obviously problematic. Even my untrained eye could see that it was severely abnormal. The doctor called it "incompatible with life."

Thank you for your kind thoughts, I appreciate them.

I think the fact that spring is finally making an appearance in the northeast is helping a lot. Winter is on its way out and is taking most of the gloom with it, which is nice.
