With those who lost friends and loved ones recently, I hate to even post this, but to us it is a big deal.
We've lost our family Chesapeake Bay Retriever early this morning, Simon of Cyrene. He was a sweet pooch, very loving. I think he was an Italian dog (or just took on our traits) as he would only eat if he had someone to eat with him (social eater). Otherwise, he'd wait for us to come home and then he'd eat.
My wife is totally devasted, as I knew she would be. We had him for 13 years (before we had kids), so he was our "Child" before childer. We even had birthday parties for him, etc. I haven't even told the kids yet, as they are still asleep.
Here are some of his pictures of his puppies nursing on my fingertips, and him. more can be found here

The favorite is him jumping into the Susquehanna river when we took him east one year, and the other of him just looking good.
