Why not drain the old coolant into a bucket, fill with water. Run motor with heater turned on, drain again, repeat until water comes out clear. Once clear. Drain again and fill with your coolant. Make it a strong mixture of coolant to water because you will have a lot of pure water in the system.
The other thing I have found that helps with vehicles is to go to a forum of that vehicle and see what they are doing there. You find all kinds of tricks for your model of vehicle, things that are common problems and how to deal with them. You find tricks and tips and almost all of them have maintenance FAQ's section. I would go there and see how they are doing radiator flushes.
