Lee, of course, has no say in the matter. The movie deal is separate from the books. He said the producers wanted Tom Cruise in there to make money - plain and simple. He's a convincing, high-draw, big-budget actor. Despite being the antithesis of Jack Reacher (who is tall, disheveled, 30s, military cut, dirty blonde, 250 lbs, quiet/thoughtful/introverted...need I go on?)
I feel sorry for those folks who see the movie first, then read the books after. They're the ones truly suffering. Hahaha
On one hand, after having read the entire series, I can't imagine a Reacher movie without a "collosal left hook"...and Tom just doesn't have those kind of hands. Also, Reacher is a drifter...never drives....ever. And the fight scene in the movie trailer is more "jackie chan" than Reacher (strike first, strike fast, strike hard).
On the other hand, I thoroughly enjoyed the Jason Bourne movies, having never read the books - and understand that too is quite a departure from them.
So, I'm torn.
I'll still probably go see it. Will just have to tell myself it's "Jack's older, prettier, goofier, wimpier, skinnier, shorter brother who is also named Jack".
LOL
