A small house, 2000 sq ft, that I designed in Fairhope, Alabama, on Mobile Bay is in it's final stages of finish. Had a great client, an attorney, fine contractor and exceptionally talented finish carpenter/cabinetmaker who can make about anything and do it beautifully.

I went out to his shop recently to discuss some stained glass windows he is making ans discovered he bought and rebuilt motorcycles as a hobby....

His shop:

A BMW being rebuilt:

A BSA being finished up and already rebuilt:

Another BMW bought for $850 , not running and scheduled for rebuilding. Dumb me did mot know the Germans made "Hogs" !! LOL

Some awaiting help....a part of the dead bike collection!!
[IMG][linked image][/IMG]

And what he does for a living, I designed the kitchen, Dan did all the wooden cabinets, trimmed the room , made the room doors....the stainless steel cabinets were made by a restaurant supply firm:

The walls in the entire house are 1X clear T&G cypress and the stairs are heart pine:

Twin newel post at the top of the stairs:

Stainless hangers to hold the rail:

Needless to say the recession has ended most of this level work, my work down about 60-70% . Thank goodness I am retired!

the high ceilings in the kitchen are quite lovely. that would cost a fortune to heat up here.
we can't source that quality of pine and cypress here. there's some fine fir coming out of canada that can be found.
you should see my shop... nice machinery, but limited to 900 sq, ft. of basement. again, an area that can be easily heated.

small caliber joy

The old engines are for parts and future use ...I asked.

The cypress was cut, dried and milled 30 miles away and the pine came from a big salvage operation in Ft. Payne, Alabama. He buys old lumber from all over the US. I have gotten some wormy oak from him out of the Fox River, near Chicago, buried under the silt for 110 years...made beautiful flooring . GB
