How to make wood grips for your Crosman

It’s easy. Just start with a piece of wood and cut, chisel, and sand away anything that isn’t a grip.

It was a great day in Florida. Temperature was in the 80s, with a gentle breeze.

I figured it was a nice day to work on some furniture, and since I’ve had a lot of requests for these grips it was time to get to work. Last night I glued up the blanks I needed, and made sure my patterns were accurate. Before I begin any shaping on the forearms, I like to take care of the inletting while the blanks are square and easy to handle.

Using a grip frame from a Crosman 1377, I made templates for the shape of the grips, and for the location of all the holes. The drilling template is on the far left, the template for locating the holes on the far right.

I also take care of the inletting on the grips while they are still blanks, and begin shaping the forearm.

Next I shape the end of the forearm to the front of the trigger guard.

Measure twice, cut once. No room for error here.

The initial shape is then rough cut with a band saw/jig saw and sanded in with the spindle sander.

I rough cut the grips and clean them up with a pattern bit on the router.

Here you can see all the pieces ready for rough shaping and sanding.

If you look closely, you can see pattern lines on the blanks. I use those as guides while I sand in the rough shape using the spindle sander.

It was getting late and Momma was calling me to make meatballs for supper. I didn’t even get a chance to shoot today. I just received my first Crosman Custom Shop 2300X pistol this week and I haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet.

By the way, if you get bored while you’re doing any of this, you can always change your plan, and make something for the Grandkids.

“Tower….this is Ghost Rider……requesting a fly-by…..”
“Negative Ghost Rider….the pattern is full”

The sun goes down early here this time of year, but the weather is why I moved south. To all my friends in the north, please be safe. You are all in my prayers.

To be continued………

Kind Regards,
Michael in Florida
