My new $15 All Weather silent pellet trap - PIC

For the past few years, I've been using an Outer's Rimfire Bullet Trap on the side of my house for my 10 - 30 yard shooting. Its been an extremely durable trap but 2 things annoy me(as with all the other metal traps I've used from Beeman, Crosman, etc.)

1. The noise of the pellet hitting the trap which more than anything let's neighbors, etc. hear/notice my recreational and data gathering activities.

2. The pellets/fragments of lead and cardboard/paper that ultimately either bounce out of the trap or fall off the trap onto the ground in front of the trap.

3. Wind/breeze blowing the target and backer about while trying to take aim.

Now that I have a new puppy that uses that part of the yard to do his business, I don't want him walking on lead, for his health, let alone tracking it into the house!

So I decided it was time for a new trap, didn't care for duct seal based traps as they are heavy, messy, require occassional stirring and the cost of adding new duct seal...

The quietest and cheapest trap I've see is what my friend Mountain Lyon uses inside his house, shooting 15 yards with up to 40fpe pcps with a sliding glass door behind the trap which is nothing more than a cardboard box stuffed with old clothes, rags, etc.

Seeing that my trap is outdoors, with rain and a sprinkler system hitting it, cardboard boxes aren't gonna work...so I picked up a 20 gallon galvanized steel trash can with lid, a binder clip, an eye bolt and a couple fender washers, nuts and lock washer and created what you see.

With the eye bolt located about 10" back from the opening, wind doesn't push the target around and paper/cardboard pieces stay in the trash can/trap. A few pairs of jeans, old fleece jacket and piece of carpet catch the lead just fine...and if its gonna rain or I need to turn the sprinklers on, just put the lid on and set it up right, weighs less than 10 lbs.! Just thought I'd share.

Regards,

Tony
