Sunday was a stormy day here in NW Florida. So stormy in fact that lightening knocked out the networking chipset in my home 'puter, so I'm posting this from work and will edit with pics one day next week when the Dell technician changes the motherboard at the house.

I moved my shooting bench into my garage, setup the chrony with overhead light, broke out the tackdriver bag and rear back, laid out my tools and pellets, set up the target and commenced.

Now, I have to thank my buddy TLU for lending me a 44cu buddy bottle to save my butt from hand-pumping as much as my Nitrogen fill fittings haven't arrived from Joe yet.

In factory trim, the gun was set up at 2 turns in on the hammer, 3.5 turns in on the stroke, and two turns in on the Port....I sent the barrel off to Greg Davis and he reamed/polished the inleade and x-fer port opening, recrowned with a proper 11-degree match crown, and hand-lapped the bore for me...I also added one of his custom brass spring collets (adds a little preload to the spring) and one of his depingers...very, very nice stuff...

I took Greg's advice and went wide open on both port and stroke, and started at 3 turns in on the hammer...filled the gun to 3000psi and started with 3 mags full of Kodiaks at 35yds....30 shots resulted in one hole under a dime with a starting velocity of 878, max of 887 and average 30 shot string of 869. Ending pressure was 2100psi.

Next I went with Logun 20.5's..filled the gun back to 3000psi and the results were one hole, under a dime with a starting fps of 892 climbing to 913 and averaging 901 for 30 shots...ending pressure 2 was 2000psi.

I bought some of the 14.3 Benji hollow points just to give 'em a whirl as I refuse to spend the money on CP's since they went through the roof...holy cow! This gun LOVES these cheap pellets the best! Well under a dime for 30 shots at 35yds....3000psi fill....starting at 977fps, climbing to 997 with an average of 994 for 30 shots! Ending pressure was 2050psi.

I played with the gun some more, and settled (for now) on 4 turns in on the hammer, 2 turns in on the stroke and the port (4 turns out) or what the tuning doc says is wide open...I'll pull it down to visually check for sure later....the gun is running Kodiaks at an average of 894...Logun heavies at 920 and 14.3gr Benji's right at 1000fps for 30 shots.

So the rain let up and I still had a little air left...hmmm...accuracy test? Why not? So I moved the target out to 50 lasered yards...cranked the scope up to 16X....no wind...high humidity...cloud cover....almost perfect if the humidity was lower....let's see what this girl will do....to say the least, I am highly impressed...I wish I could post the pics right now, as I think you guys will be too....I ran out of Kodiaks while chronying...so I tested with 20.5 Loguns and 14.3 Benji's....unweighed, unsorted, unlubed...straight from the tins....

The results....Loguns...under a nickel at 50yds...FOR 30 SHOTS!!!! Benji's....nearly under a dime....FOR 30 SHOTS!.....when I post the pics, you can just barely see the outer edges of the pellet holes behind the dime!

Someone posted 30 shot groups with their .177 at 25 or 35yds, benched in a gun rest, a week or two ago with the results being a mostly round hole...these groups look the same...but shot from 50yds.

This gun will shoot pellets it likes right along side by BSA...that my friend is saying something...yes, I sent the barrel to Greg Davis for some of his magic....but for the minor inconvenience and Greg's great pricing....this gun is a keeper!

I'm going to play with the gun some more and get it even more optimum....but for now, I'm tickled pink...(well almost pink...lol)...and I promise I'll post the pics when my 'puter comes back up....plus while chronying, I had 3 young squirrels commit suicide, so I've got to post about that with some pics too!

50yd Mrod, 30 shot groups as promised

Well, I finally got my 'puter back up and running. I posted about a week ago about the outstanding accuracy of the Mrod at 50 lasered yards.

It was thunderstorming like crazy, so couldn't work in the yard, and most of the shop work was caught up. A friend of mine had loned me a 44cu, 3000psi bottle...so I thought "what the heck, been wanting to play with the Crony and try some of Greg's tuning advice". So, I set up in the garage, turned on the overhead light for the Crony, and shot through the rain at 25yds for the purpose of testing.

Well, I already tested the Crony results, but with 14.3 Benji HP's, I set the gun up for an average of 997fps for 30 shots....with Greg's brass spring collet and depinger installed, I settled at 5 turns in on the hammer spring with 2 turns in on stroke, and the port 4 turns out....I've got my own Nitrogen setup now, so I'll fine tune it some more.

The thunderstorms passed, and the wind died to nothing...not even a little live oak leaf stirring...hmmm...overcast...humid, but zero wind...almost perfect for moving out to 50yds to see what it would do....just shooting through the Crony and not trying, this thing shot Logun 16gr, and 20.5gr, Benji HP's, JSB Stratons, and 14gr Defiants into one little hole...so I lasered 50yds and moved the target and table to meet the new angle...aired the gun back up to 3000psi and started shooting....I also gave some hard consideration to what people consider a "real group", 3 shots, 5 shots, 10 shots...and also of all the Mrod naysayers...how to prove it to them?....someone posted 30 shot groups with a .177, so let's see what the .22 will do after Greg's massaging.

It shot everything under an inch...the majority of the groups WELL under an inch...but it would kick one out 1/4 inch or so occasionally...I think this was coming from shooting them straight from the tin...but the two that REALLY performed were the 20.5 Loguns and especially the el cheapo Benji 14.3 HP's....

So without further adoo, here are the groups as promised...they hold true in the field too, as proven on TV and I's nutter hunt....
